RM1648 Hand woven Swing Handle natural basket - signed "NEWT WASHBURN" on bottom. Tightly woven with double wrapped, double rimmed top with steamed and bent, notched handles that are woven into the sides to secure the swing handle to the basket. Ever so slightly bumped up bottom for weight distribution and added air flow. Excellent condition.
Measurements: 8 ¾” x 9” top diameter x 5 ¾” bottom diameter. The sides are 5” tall and overall height with handle is ~9 ½” tall.
Newt Washburn (b. 1915) of Vermont is from a well-known line of New England basket makers – whose work is highly sought after.
