L85 Wooden shipping / storage box with lid bearing original surface with “H.S. & Co. 1884” painted in gold gild over white on the front. Applied molding surrounds the removeable lid. The wood is pine. Tiny square head nail construction throughout. One end of the clean interior bears “TC & Co Portland” stenciled in black paint.
(NOTE: The Twitchell-Champlin Grocery Company (1884-1924) of Portland, Maine was a spice mill, candy factory and cannery for the commercial port during this time period.)
Measurements: 14” wide x 11” deep x 7 ¼” tall.
