J275 Late 19th century Hunting scene featuring three Pointer Dogs hunting in tall grasses. No visible signature, however the Provenance included with this painting states it was painted by Elma Hall Sharp of Arcade, NY. Circa 1894 – 1897. Painting is oil on canvas and is exquisitely framed. Please see photographs for close-ups of the great condition and paint details, as well as a copy of the Provenance. Framed measurements: 36 ½” wide x 26 ¾” tall x 3” deep. Canvas portion measures 30” wide x 20” tall.
NOTE: The additional provenance reads as follows:
“Provenance for Large Oil Paintin of Hunting Dogs - The artist was Elma Hall Sharp of Arcade, New York and the painting is C. 1894-1897. Elma Sharp was born in Wethersfield, NY and married Harry P. Sharp, MD. They had 2 children, Harry J. and Olive P. Sharp. They moved from Bliss, NY to Arcade in 1892. Olive married George W. Weed in 1910 and had one child. Harry J. Weed of York, PA, the only child, is the person from whom this painting was acquired. After Dr. Sharp’s death, Elma Hall Sharp married George E. Fuller and resided in Arcade until her death in 1955. An additional note is that this painting was done from a print (I suspect) which was published in 1894. I observed this same print in the summer of 1999 at an antique shop in Chadd’s Ford, PA. It was almost exact down to the finest detail.
