E49 Philadelphia Windsor “Sack-back Windsor armchair with finely turned vase shaped legs joined by bulbous-turned “H” stretchers. The slightly dished seat supports a back of nine spindles in the bow and 15 spindles and two turned posts below the medial bow with carved knuckle arms. Pressure branded under seat: F. TRUMBLE” for Philadelphia Windsor chairmaker working late 18th and early 19th century Reproduction Sack-back Windsor Chair – with original label on bottom from the National Historical Society – Gettysburg, Pennsylvania indicating the chair was commissioned to be made for “Wright and Company of Washington D.C.” - a reproduction of one made in the latter part of the 18th century by F. Trumble, and now on display at Independence Hall, Philadelphia. The original was placed on loan to The National Historical Society and reproduced in limited quantities, exclusively for Society Members, by Virginia Craftsmen of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Historians at Independence Hall provided the following description of this rare chair H. 36”, W. 22”, depth of seat 16 ½”.
